Grape Variety:Areni

Highlands Rosé is made exclusively from the ancient Areni varietal.

Red wines from this variety have been part of Armenia’s viticultural history for thousands of years, as shown by the Areni-1 cave archaeological excavations, which testify to the presence of Areni in our region as far back as 6,000 years.

At ZORAH, we are fiercely committed to our traditions but have always considered our winery a bridge between the past and the future. We therefore decided to write a new chapter in the history of Areni by using it to craft a Rosé, opening a new chapter in the storied history of this varietal.

TERRITORY

To preserve freshness and protect the grapes from the intense summer sun of Vayots Dzor, the fruit is harvested from traditional bush vines whose canopies provide natural shade and help maintain a cooler microclimate around the clusters.

The vineyards are situated at 1,400 meters (4,500 feet) above sea level on phylloxera-free limestone and sandy soils. This unique combination of elevation, soil composition, and vine-growing practices contributes distinctive minerality, freshness, and crispness to the wines, making them particularly refreshing on warm, sun-drenched summer days.

VINIFICATION AND AGING

ZORAH’s Highlands Rosé is made always keeping in mind our fierce loyalty to quality and low-intervention winemaking. The Areni used for this wine comes from plots specifically
selected for their ability to produce slightly less ripe grapes with a higher acidity than the rest of our Areni. This is then gently pressed, allowing for a minimal extraction of colour and giving it its signature pink look.

Indigenous yeasts are then used to ferment the must, allowing for the creation of the floral, fresh, and crisp character of the wine. The wine is aged for a couple of months in concrete and a further three months in the bottle.

It is a high-acidity wine with tons of freshness and crispness.
